Born in Ohio, Scott V. Smith grew up with Lake Erie as his backyard. In his youth, his summers were spent on the family’s ski boat, and traveling to watch his father, Jay Smith, race Powerboats. His father’s passion for racing had rubbed off and when Smith was old enough he began racing himself. Smith’s racing career has won him two World Championships in Offshore Powerboats, once in 1982 and again in 1998.
Developing Basic, High Performance and Offshore Marine Safety courses, Smith has trained boat owners, US Customs officials and over 100 US Navy personnel.
As Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Cigarette Racing Team from 1985 to 1999, he oversaw all aspects of production from quality control to warranty and service. Smith also participated in the design development of all new models including the “Café Racer”, the “Top Gun”, and the “Revolution”. He was integral in customer-manufacturer communications and maintained all client relationships to better serve their ownership experience.
In 1999 Smith was recruited by Magnum Marine to manage the company’s production team for the creation of the 44’ and 50’ models. During this time, Smith had vital input in developing the new Magnum 60’ prototype, which became Magnum’s most popular model.
With over 25 years of experience in the marine industry, Smith brings a remarkable sense of experience and understanding to GTMM brand and product.
Graduating with a B.A. in Communications, from Ithaca College and a minor in politics from Cornell University, Smith perused a career in the marine industry. Today, Smith holds a 100- ton captain’s license and presently holds a 2-20 All-lines insurance license and is an accredited marine surveyor.
Smith resides with his wife and son in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
